This study seeks to explore Indonesia’s historical reflections during the period of colonial era in the Netherland-Indies. Employing a political communication approach and an Asia-centric perspective through the framework of de-westernizing political communication history, this research aims to challenge the dominance of Western perspectives in Indonesia scholarship. Using a qualitative literature-based method, the study demonstrates that indigenous resistance to colonial power was not limited to physical or violent confrontation, but was also articulated through the press. As a form of communication technology, the press possessed significant capacity for message dissemination, public opinion, formation, and political propaganda. This research conceptualizes the press a political actor operating within the power relations of the colonial state and anti-colonial resistance movements.
